Tarot Explorations - Moon Power Spread

Do you feel a strong connection to the Moon? Do you love Tarot and Oracles? If your answer is yes to any of these two questions, continue reading as you will find a way to use Tarot cards or Oracle cards to perform a reading that is connected to the phases of the Moon. Last Tuesday, I was leading my Tarot meetup and we went over this spread with the participants. Most of them found this spread useful so I thought I would share it here so you can try it on your own. As with any recipe, feel free to modify as needed! During the meetup I used five Moon related decks, one for each position in the spread. You do not need to have five decks as one will be more than enough but having different decks for each position made it fun! If you know me, you know that I love combining different decks and oracles to create one message as I love connecting the dots and the energies each deck brings. Like an alchemist, I like bringing all the energies together to transform it in something bigger than the sum of the parts.

Going back to the Moon Power Spread, do you have your deck ready? You should use this spread when you are working on a project and you need to gather information about what you need to incorporate, what you need to let go, and gather information to get clear on your project. You can also use this spread to align yourself with the Moon and perform a small ritual during the waning moon to gather information about the next moon cycle. You may wonder why the waning moon instead of the new moon. If you are asking yourself that question, the response is simple! We need to make space to create new things so we begin at the waning moon to learn what we need to let go of to make space for our new project. You may have been holding onto many things and the time has come to drop some of those things if you are to manifest your desire. Then we will move to the New Moon to discover what are the seeds we need to plant during this lunation. Sometimes we have projects that are so big we need to divide them in pieces so you can use each lunation to work on one part of your project until you reach completion. After discovering the seeds we are tending during this month, we can move to the Waxing Moon (the Growing Moon) to discover what we need to do more of, what are the things that we need to increase to make sure we meet the deadlines in our project. Then finally, we reach the Full Moon phase. This phase is usually associated with completion or with illumination. We will use this position to provide information on those things we did not see before but now, like under a flashlight, we can see and explore.  So now, you may be wondering why did she say the spread was five cards and there are only four Moon phases. Well, let me get to that now! Before we begin with the Moon phases, we will pick one card that will be our guide for the journey. This is the card that will tells us what type of energy we need to have during this lunation to make sure we complete our project.

So, let's get technical now! Here is where the recipe part begins and remember, you can modify as needed.

Ingredients: one Tarot deck and/or one Oracle deck (or five decks and you will use one for each position)

If you are using one deck for this spread, and that deck is a Tarot deck, please separate the Major Arcana. If you are using one Oracle deck, you do not need to separate any cards from your deck.

Before you begin, clear your mind by becoming centered in your body. Take a couple of deep breaths in and out. Let go of anything that is not required for this project and begin focusing on the areas you are looking to get answers on. If you are looking for a general reading, just ask the Universe to provide you with information about what you need to focus on the next 28 days or the next lunation cycle.

Once you are ready to begin, pick up the Major Arcana cards and shuffle them until you feel complete. Then select one card and place it in the center. Once you have done that, incorporate the Major Arcana to the rest of the deck and shuffle again. This time you will focus on asking the cards to provide you insights on what you need to let go of. You will pick one card and place it on the top right corner. Then you will continue shuffling and now focus on the seeds you need to tend, what areas in your life need attention to make sure that your project gets to completion. You will pick one card and place it on the bottom right angle.  Then you will continue shuffling and you will place your attention on gathering information about what you need to do more of in order to fulfill your goal. Pick a card and place it on the bottom left. Finally, you will shuffle again and ask the cards to provide you with information on those areas you are blind-sided or that you need to focus on. Pick a card and place it on the top left. Now you have all your cards and you are ready to read them!

Card 1 (center card): This card signifies the energies you need to incorporate during this lunation. This card will be a Major Arcana if you are using Tarot cards and it will provide you with insights on where in the Hero's Journey you are located. What energies you need to use to go with the flow during this lunation and maybe what to avoid.

Card 2 (Waning Moon, top right): This card shows you what you need to let go of during this lunation in order to make space to achieve what you desire. You can not grab something new if your hands are full with other things so remember, this may not be let go of but postpone as it is not useful during this lunation.

Card 3 (New Moon, bottom right): This card signifies the seeds we need to tend. What is the nature of your new project or the part of the project you are focusing on during this lunation? What needs your attention and intention? What needs your focus?

Card 4 (Waxing Moon, bottom left): This is the card that tells us what we need to do more of or expand. What needs extra attention? It shows us where to focus our energy so we can be in the flow.

Card 5 (Full Moon, top left): This card signifies our blind spot. It shows us what areas we may have been missing because we were distracted or did not pay attention to the essential. Pay attention this card as it is key to complete your project.

If you use this spread to align with the lunation, you can interpret each card as an area you need to focus during that week. Each Moon phase is 7 days, use a card for each week of the period and the central card can be the general topic for the lunation period.

I hope you enjoy this spread! Feel free to share your comments, observations or suggestions in the blog comments. If you have questions, don't hesitate in writing to me at carolina@caroamor.com or post your questions on this blog and I will respond to them as I receive them.

Good luck in your Tarot and Divination Journey!

Many blessings,
